2012 MLB Home Run Derby

Back from my week long stay down in Florida (Anna Maria Island) for some sunshine and beach activities (most notability attending my brothers wedding, beautiful), so back here today back where I belong, blogging from the basement in good 'ole O-H-I-O. This week I will discuss the MLB All-Star festivities (Home Run Derby, 2012 All-Star Game, etc.), another Wall of Fame Wednesday and later in the week give you my preview/picks for the 2nd half of the MLB season. Ahhh, its good to be home #HomeSweetHome.

Back...Back...Back...Gone!!!
You can all catch the slug fest tonight (July 9th) from Kauffman Stadium on ESPN at 8 PM EST.

Field Dimensions: 330 feet down the lines, 387 feet in the gaps, and 410 feet straight center.

AL Participants/Team

Robinson Cano, Yankees (captain): 20 HR's during the 1st half, defending champion, can he repeat?
Mark Trumbo, Angels: Coming out party? 22 HR's so far, this kid is going to be around for awhile.
Prince Fielder, Tigers: 2009 champ, a regular in recent years, bats for the AL now 15 HR's so far.
Jose Bautista, Blue Jays: 27 HR's so far, HR King the past couple seasons, flamed out in last years derby, hit just four over the fence.

NL Participants/Team
Matt Kemp, Dodgers (captain): just 12 HR's after his hot start to the season (injury bug), guys got a great HR swing, just two HR's a year ago in the Home Run Derby.
Carlos Gonzalez, Rockies: 17 HR's at the break, could be a sleeper pick to win the derby.
Carlos Beltran, Cardinals: turning back the clock a few years, the old vet has 20 HR's so far this season.
Andrew McCutchen, Pirates: 18 HR's, he has been the talk of the 1st half of the season, replaces Giancarlo Stanton (knee surgery) as the last NL participant.

Boomer's Pick: I like Trumbo over McCutchen in the final round.

Feel free to let me know, who you all will be rooting for to win.

Here's a clip from the 2008 Home Run Derby, of Josh Hamilton's single-round record of 28 bomb's, I think a couple of those shots are still up in the air somewhere....I SEE YOU, STEVE!
