Boomer's Urban Renewal: CFB Signing Day Wrap Up

Vonn Bell, was just one of 24 football players, to announce Wednesday, that he will
be coming to THE Ohio State University to play football in the fall.
OH YEAH! Sort of a national holiday for all you college football fanatics out there this past Wednesday, as CFB had its yearly National Signing Day hoopla. Here, I am to give you my thoughts and discuss a couple things on the day. A day in which time seems to stop, as we all, send the day following, where a certain 5-star 17-year old will play football at next fall. In case you missed it, January 2012, I wrote up a little piece on the whole "hat selection" day and I gave you my honest opinion on the whole matter. Enjoy folks, TGIF! #kidpresident

Boomer's Urban Renewal: Alabama reaches "Dynasty" status

Nick Saban's created a modern day Dynasty down in 'Bama,
winning his 3rd BCS Title in four years with the Tide.
With Monday Night's no contest against Notre Dame (winning 42-14), The Crimson Tide of Alabama became a modern day "Dynasty" in college football, winning their third BCS Title in four years. The first team to do it since the Nebraska Cornhuskers ('94-'95, '97). Roll Tide has taken over the college football landscape with Head Coach Nick Saban, who won his fourth BCS Championship (three with 'Bama, one with LSU '03). Now, as we move a year closer to the playoff system that will be established following the 2014 season, dare I say Alabama will be the favorites next season to continue the SEC's dominance & capture another BCS Title, in the final year of the BCS era. (I'm sure a certain coach/team will have a say in the matter, located in the capital city of THE great state of Ohio).

Boomer's Urban Renewal: Final week of the CFB bowl season

Since 1936, Alabama (9) & Notre Dame (8) have won the most
National Championships. On Monday night, one of them
will add to their collection.
Two historic programs square off against each other down in Miami, Monday night for the 2013 BCS Championship. Notre Dame the #1 team in the land looks to finish off their season with a perfect 13-0, and win their first National Championship since 1988, are led by third-year HC Brian Kelly. While, the Tide of Alabama look to garner "Dynasty" status, by winning their 3rd National Championship in the past four years, under Head Coach Nick Saban.

Boomer's Urban Renewal: Week 3 of the 2012-13 Bowl Season

Clemson & LSU should give us an entertaining game,
down in the Georgia Dome on the eve of New Year's.
I hope everyone got what they wanted for Christmas. Well, we are in the thick of the bowl season, as starting with today's contests a total of 20 bowl games will be played over the next week. If you got nothing better to do, why don't you just plop down in front of the television and enjoy some entertaining college football games.

Boomer's Urban Renewal: Week 1 of the 2012-13 Bowl Season

Nevada & Arizona open up the Bowl Season in CFB,
with the New Mexico Bowl Saturday afternoon.
Not quite like March Madness in college hoops, but the college football bowl season always provides some entertainment over the holiday season. Things to watch for: bunches of unique stadiums/uniforms,  college finale's for a number of high-profile players, and coaches filling in for ones that have ran off to bigger and better ones.

THE Ohio State Buckeyes ran the table this fall and finished 12-0, for just the 6th perfect season in school history. The Buckeyes capped it with a win over their arch-rivals the Michigan Wolverines yesterday afternoon, with a 26-21 victory. OH-IO! 12-OH!

Boomer's Game Recap: 11-OH! Ohio State beats Wisconsin in a OT thriller

The Buckeyes D rose to the occasion Saturday night, and denied
Wisconsin's RB M. Ball, of the all-time NCAA touchdowns record.
Recap: Buckeyes stay perfect, with thrilling OT win over Badgers

11-OH! Wow, this season has resurfaced a number of memories from 10 years ago, when the 2002 Buckeye squad narrowly escaped in a number of games to go 14-0, winning the 2002 National Championship. The only difference, this current squad won't have the chance to play for the National Championship this season, due to a number of selfish Seniors from a season ago. The Buckeyes are banned from the postseason this season, but that hasn't kept them from winning every game (up to this point) on the 2012 schedule, and winning the Leaders Division of the Big Ten out-right.

Boomer's Urban Renewal: Avoiding the Upsets in Week 12

Bill Snyder, Kansas State's long-time Head Coach, has the Wildcats just
two wins, away from playing in the BCS Championship Game.
Each of the four remaining undefeated teams still have a number of goals in front of them, most notability winning this week, with that in mind the theme for the week is avoiding the upset. First, the new #1 team in the land this week, the K-State Wildcats (10-0) led by long-time Head Coach Bill Snyder & Heisman frontrunner QB Colin Klein travel down to Waco, Texas, to take on a Baylor Bears (4-5) squad looking to pull off the upset. The Wildcats come into the game as a 12-point favorite and look to shutdown a Bears offensive attack that ranks 2nd in the nation in passing (368 ypg) and 7th in the nation in offensive scoring (43 ppg). Out in the pacific northwest, the #2 Oregon Ducks (10-0) host the #13 Stanford Cardinal (8-2), in the game of the week (8:00PM EST, ABC). The #3 team in the land, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (10-0) host the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (5-5), in South Bend, a place the Irish haven't looked very good at, in recent weeks. The last remaining undefeated team in action this week, Ohio State Buckeyes (10-0), are two wins away from perfection in this bowl-banned season, travel up to Madison, WI to take on the Wisconsin Badgers (7-3), who are actually a 2-point favorite. It's looking like another outstanding weekend of CFB, starting live in the early hours of Saturday morning, out west from Eugene, OR for College Gameday Live 10PM on ESPN. Saturday's in the fall, nothing better.

Boomer's Urban Renewal: Salute to the Veterans in Week 11

Honoring Veterans all over, with another great
weekend of college football action.
On this weekend, we celebrate Veterans Day (November 11th), by honoring the ones that have went before as, and the ones that are serving and protecting as out there today. Over the weekend, a number of National Anthems will be sung, America flags will be raised, and the stars and stripes will remind us, how special it is, to be able to head out to our favorite tailgate, college stadium, and watch our favorite teams each and every week. All three service academies will be in action this weekend (more on that later), as well as a number of college hoops games tipping-off on either a army base over seas or on a carrier ship off the shores of this great land. When you are out and about this weekend, take a minute to let someone you know, who has serviced this country that you care about what they are doing and thank them for their services. Now, onto the less-important things, the college football action this weekend. Six of the Top 10 teams this weekend travel on the road (including Florida State's 28-22 win over VA. Tech, last night) to take on home underdogs. The biggest task for this weekend, most importantly for the five remaining eligible undefeated teams is, "take care of your business, and move on", because at this stage of the game, you do not want to be slipping up and losing. Enjoy another great weekend, starting with College Football Live from aboard the USS San Diego, in San Diego, CA at 10AM, ESPN. My reaction, when I found out the Buckeyes & Browns had the same Bye Week.

Boomer Report: Perfection down to a two-game season for the Buckeyes

And to think, these two guys still have two more years (hopefully)
together.
A stretch of 10 perfect, and at times imperfect games, THE Ohio State University football team has itself sporting a 10-0 record and ranked #5 in the latest AP poll. The Buckeyes, who are off this week (the rare Week 11 Bye Week, haha), have their perfect season boiling down to a two-game run in the next couple of weeks. It's been a fun ride watching this team come together in this bowl-ban season, after what they had to go though a season ago. Now, lets glance back at how the Buckeyes got to this point and look ahead to the Scarlet & Gray's final two games of the 2012 campaign. #Miller2NYC

Boomer's Game Recap: Perfect 10! Buckeyes cruise past Fighting Illini

Buckeyes' RB Carlos Hyde ran all over Illinois' defense, accounting for
137 rushing yards and 3 TD's.
Recap: RB Hyde scores 3 TD's, Ohio State rolls Illinois

Finally, a game that you won't biting your finger nails in the 4th quarter. Despite another slow start (which we have come accustomed to see this season) Ohio State rolled up 567 total yards of offense and thumped Illinois, 52-22. For the fourth time this season the Buckeyes went over the 50-point mark, as QB Braxton Miller had another stellar performance, in getting the Buckeyes to 10-0, their best start since 2007. Now, the Buckeyes head into their Bye Week, facing what most people predicted back during preseason camp, a two-game season. The Buckeyes travel up to Madison, WI on the 17th to face the Badgers, then will face their arch rivals from that school up north, the Saturday following Thanksgiving. It's been a wild 2012 season up to this point, and would be great to finish it off with a perfect 12-0 mark, as we all start to wonder, what it would have been like, if they were bowl eligible. O-H-I-O!

Boomer's Urban Renewal: Epicness of CFB engulfs Week 10

epicness: To describe something that is so amazing that no other word is able to describe its awesomeness.

LSU & Alabama will have their rubber match on Saturday
when these two teams meet for the 3rd time in a year.
Miami (FL) beating Virginia Tech, 30-12 last night on the ESPN Thursday Night game, opened up the weekend, most of us had circled all the way back in August (for LSU fans it was probably mid-January, haha). November 3rd, 2012. #5 LSU hosting #1 Alabama in Baton Rouge, their third meeting between each other in the past year (8:00, CBS). The two teams played twice last season, both snoozers, with LSU winning the regular season meeting, 9-6, while Bama grabbed the crystal ball from LSU in the National Championship, 21-0. The rubber match, again will have National Championship/SEC Championship implications. For Bama, this is their 1st true test of the season, especially facing a ridiculously atmosphere, while LSU will be right back into the National Championship picture, after their lone lose back in October to Florida (14-6). If this match up wasn't enough for your Saturday evening, there is a PAC-12 clash & Big XII game, that showcase four high-powered offenses. Oregon travels down to LA, to face USC, which could be the first of two meeting this season for the two teams. While Heisman front-runner, Colin Klein and his K-State Wildcats host Oklahoma State, a game that should feature a lot of scoring (last seasons meeting: OK State 52 K State 45). Alabama, Oregon, and K State (all undefeated) are all favored by at least eight-points in these three games, that highlight this epic Saturday slate of College Football action. College Gameday is Live from Baton Rouge, LA starting at 10am on ESPN. November 3rd, and my reaction to the epicness of Saturday's slate of games.

Boomer's Game Recap: Miller, Buckeyes handle Penn State, improve to 9-0

Once again, Braxton Miller shines under the lights,
accounting for 3 TD's & 277 total yards of offense.
Recap: Miller accounts for 3 scores, Ohio State drops Penn State
Box Score: Ohio State 35, Penn State 23 Final

WEEEEEEE!!!! I'm sure that's the sound Braxton Miller made as he dove into the end zone for his second rushing touchdown of the night, leading the Buckeyes to a 35-23 victory over the Nittany Lions. The atmosphere was unbelievable again, at Beaver Stadium, and the Buckeyes handled the crowd along with a number of mishaps to grab the road win, and improve their season record to a perfect 9-0. After starting their season 0-2, Penn State had won 5-straight heading into Saturday's game vs. the Buckeyes with a lot of confidences. The Buckeyes weathered the storm early (blocked punt, that resulted in a PSU TD), settled for a 7-7 tie at halftime, and took control of the game in the 3rd quarter. The Buckeyes outscored the Nittany Lions 21-3 in the 3rd, and were impressive on both sides of the ball. The Buckeyes 9-0 record is their best start since 2007 when they started that season 10-0. With three remaining games left on the schedule (vs. Illinois, @ Wisconsin, vs. Michigan), the Buckeyes chances of finishing the season at a perfect 12-0, are looking pretty good in this bowl ban season, the 1st under Head Coach Urban Meyer. GO BUCKEYES!

Boomer's Urban Renewal: Spooky surroundings in Week 9

With 11 undefeated teams remaining,
who will survive the week still undefeated?
Hint: At least one undefeated is going down.
I'm sure a number of Wake Forest students/fans woke up in the middle of the night with nightmares, following last nights, 42-13 defeat to the Clemson Tigers. With that and Halloween next Wednesday, a number of folks will be out in full costume this weekend celebrating Halloween, while the rest of us sit at home, wondering "will our team survive the scary weekend"? Eleven teams head into the weekend undefeated, and a number of them face some "tricky" opponents that are looking to "scare 'em" from the ranks of the unbeaten. We know that at least one undefeated team will go down this weekend, when 7-0 Mississippi State travels to 7-0 Alabama, for a clash between two SEC unbeatens. Other undefeated teams that face a spooky weekend include: Louisville, Florida, Ohio, Ohio State, and Notre Dame. As for the rest of the unbeatens (Kansas State, Oregon, Oregon State, and Rutgers) they will try and survive the weekend, as well, because someone always survives a scare, right? Well, while you flee from the ghost & goblins this weekend, make sure to check out a little CFB action, and see who survives the "spooky surroundings", and stay undefeated. College Gameday Live is from Norman, OK (10 am, ESPN) site of the Notre Dame/Oklahoma game (8:00, ABC). What's your favorite scary movie?

Boomer's Game Recap: Great 8! Buckeyes rally late, beat Purdue in OT

#86 TE Jeff Heuerman caught the two-point conversion
that sent the game into OT, tied up at 22 all.
Recap: Buckeyes win a thriller in OT, improve to 8-0

Fitting 10 years have past since the Holy Buckeye play, that the 2012 Buckeye squad, created their own version of the dramatics vs. the Purdue Boilermakers. Talk about your peaks & valleys of a football game. From the lows of trailing Purdue late in the ball game to the lowest of lows (Braxton Miller knocked out of the game, sent to the medical center) to the highs rallying in the final minute to send the game into overtime with a TD plus 2-point conversion with :03 left in the game, to the highest of highs pulling out the 29-22 OT win to improve to 8-0 on the season. This team continues to be imperfect on the field, yet perfect where it matters the most, the win column. If the rally and win wasn't enough, hearing later in the night, that Braxton Miller was being released from the medical center, after being checked out & "symptom free" for head, neck, back, shoulder injuries. What a wild game, which lead me to wonder, are Buckeye fans heading towards a stretch of games, like the home stretch we witnessed in 2002? HOLY BUCKEYES!

Boomer's Urban Renewal: Bouncing back in Week 8

Week 8 provides a number of teams, the chance to get
their seasons back on track.
The best thing about college football, is things chance quickly from week to week. West Virginia with Heisman candidate QB Geno Smith suffered their 1st loss of the season a wee ago, at Texas Tech, now have the chance to bounce back in a big way with a home game tomorrow night, vs. #4 Kansas State (7:00, FOX). If the Mountaineers are able to pull off the upset, things will be back in order for Geno & Co., in the very competitive Big 12 conference. As for the Game Cocks of South Carolina, after dropping a 23-21 decision in "Death Valley" vs. the LSU Tigers, now have to go on the road again, this time down in "The Swamp" to face SEC East rival #2 Florida Gators. This would mark the third game in-a-row, that QB Connor Shaw and the Game Cocks will have to face a Top 10 team, just the normal grind of the SEC schedule, haha. As for the Spartans of Michigan State, sitting at 4-3 on the season, go on the road this weekend against arch rival Michigan. Preseason favorites to represent the Big Ten in the Rose Bowl, Sparty finds itself in a "must-win" scenario vs. the Wolverines, who have dropped four-straight in the series. Will these three teams get back on track this weekend or will they see their seasons  get derailed? Looks like it will be another entertaining week of CFB, and make sure you check out College Game Day, LIVE from Gainesville, FL site of #7 South Carolina vs. #2 Florida Gators SEC clash. College GameDay Kickoff: Week 8 preview
