Ohio State Buckeyes (21-4, 9-3 Big Ten)

It’s time to start a new streak. After winning 39-games in a row at home (Value City Arena) the Buckeyes were denied number 40 on Saturday Night. In over almost two years (Last Home Loss: Feb 17, 2010) the Buckeyes played arguably their worse game in two seasons, falling to Michigan St., 58 to 48. With the loss, the Buckeyes fall into a first-place tie with the Spartans, who now have the upper hand, with the head-to-head win, and Round Two up in East Lansing March 4th. Jared Sullinger led the Buckeyes with 17 pts. and 16 rebounds, he also accounted for 10 of the team’s 15 turnovers. Poor shooting all-around for the Buckeyes who made only 14-53 FG’s (26%) and 2-15 from behind the arc (13%). William Buford and Deshaun Thomas the teams #2 and #3 scorer combined to shoot 4 of 24, not making a single 3-pointer and scoring 12 points. It was a big letdown as a fan, especially at home. This team shoots/plays like this past week (earlier in the week they escaped with a 87-84 home win vs. a sub-par Purdue team) its going to be hard to get out of the first weekend of the NCAA, let along make it to the Final Four (New Orleans). With the loss the Buckeyes (21-4, 9-3 Big Ten) room for error the rest of the season is ZERO. The Buckeyes need to win out to win the Big Ten and probably win the Big Ten tournament to achieve a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament, which as of now sit as a #2 seed in the updated http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/bracketology Bracketology. It should be an interesting last month of the season, with Michigan (9-4) and Wisconsin (8-4) right behind the top-two, in case, either one splits up again.

NBA News/Notes

Cleveland Cavs 10-16, 10th in the East (2 GB of 8th)

During this past week the Cavs went 1-3 and were hit hard with the injury bug. Kyrie Irving (concession) did not play the rest of the week after getting injured in the Cavs 107-91 loss down in Miami last Tuesday. The Cavs started a 9-game home stand last Wednesday, beating the LA Clippers 99 to 92, without the aid of Irving. Then over the weekend dropped back-to-back games vs. the Bucks on Friday Night (113-112 F/OT) and then again vs. the 76ers on Saturday Night (99-84). The Cavs, who now sit in the 10th spot in the Eastern Conference Standings, find themselves at a crossroad. They can either fight their way back into the Top 8 (only 2 GB) or continue to fall even farther out and look to the June Draft. With 6 games still remaining on this current home stand, it is critical for the Cavs to grind out some W’s. Kyrie Irving is expected to be back after sitting out the past three games. The Cavs host the Pacers (2-15), Heat (2-17), Kings (2-19) this week. LETS GO CAVS!
