Boomer's Urban Renewal: Epicness of CFB engulfs Week 10

epicness: To describe something that is so amazing that no other word is able to describe its awesomeness.

LSU & Alabama will have their rubber match on Saturday
when these two teams meet for the 3rd time in a year.
Miami (FL) beating Virginia Tech, 30-12 last night on the ESPN Thursday Night game, opened up the weekend, most of us had circled all the way back in August (for LSU fans it was probably mid-January, haha). November 3rd, 2012. #5 LSU hosting #1 Alabama in Baton Rouge, their third meeting between each other in the past year (8:00, CBS). The two teams played twice last season, both snoozers, with LSU winning the regular season meeting, 9-6, while Bama grabbed the crystal ball from LSU in the National Championship, 21-0. The rubber match, again will have National Championship/SEC Championship implications. For Bama, this is their 1st true test of the season, especially facing a ridiculously atmosphere, while LSU will be right back into the National Championship picture, after their lone lose back in October to Florida (14-6). If this match up wasn't enough for your Saturday evening, there is a PAC-12 clash & Big XII game, that showcase four high-powered offenses. Oregon travels down to LA, to face USC, which could be the first of two meeting this season for the two teams. While Heisman front-runner, Colin Klein and his K-State Wildcats host Oklahoma State, a game that should feature a lot of scoring (last seasons meeting: OK State 52 K State 45). Alabama, Oregon, and K State (all undefeated) are all favored by at least eight-points in these three games, that highlight this epic Saturday slate of College Football action. College Gameday is Live from Baton Rouge, LA starting at 10am on ESPN. November 3rd, and my reaction to the epicness of Saturday's slate of games.

Games to keep an eye on in Week 10: (Complete Week 10 Schedule) *Rankings via BCS Standings*

Temple at #10 Louisville (NOON, ABC)
  • The Cardinals all of a sudden find themselves in the BCS Top 10, with their 8-0 start. The Cardinals look to make it 9-straight vs. Big East-newcomer Temple on Saturday afternoon.
Pittsburgh at #3 Notre Dame (3:30, NBC)
  • The Irish, who are off to their best start in a decade, will be heavy favorites the next three weeks. The Panthers maybe without their top RB, WR, and DB in this one, following a assault charge on all three players, released today.
Illinois at Ohio State (3:30, ESPN)
  • The last time the Buckeyes were undefeated this far into the season was 2007 (10-0), the Fighting Illini handed them their 1st loss, 28 to 21 in Columbus. History won't be repeating itself in this one, right?
#4 Oregon at #17 USC (7:00, FOX)
  • Presumed to be the first of two meeting this season between the two teams, might not be the case with a Ducks win in this one. The Trojans, who have dropped two PAC-12 games already this season, with a loss on Saturday, would give them their third loss of the season, and jeopardize their PAC-12 South division chances.
#1 Alabama at #5 LSU (8:00, CBS) *College Gameday Live from Baton Rouge, LA*
  • The Tigers host Alabama, in the third meeting between the two teams in the past year. The two teams played a couple snoozers last season, lets hope the results in this one, will make it the only meeting between the two teams this season.
#24 Oklahoma State at #2 Kansas State (8:00, ABC)
  • QB Colin Klein has the Wildcats rolling along one touchdown (either in the air or ground) at a time. With a win over the Cowboys, K-State will itch itself one step closer to a Big XII title and a potential berth in the National Championship Game.

After following their 12-point win over Penn State in Happy Valley, Ohio State can become the 1st team this season to win #10 come Saturday afternoon with their game against Illinois. The Buckeyes have heard all the talk this week, about finishing this bowl-banned season at 12-0, but have said the right things about "taking it one game at a time". Back in 2007, the Buckeyes faced a similar situation heading into a game against the Fighting Illini, as they were 10-0 and the #1 team in the nation. In that game, the Buckeyes were upset by the Fighting Illini in Columbus, 28 to 21. Oh no! A undefeated Buckeye squad, facing the Fighting Illini at home, this all sounds very familiar (maybe because I personally witnessed that '07 defeat live). The differences this time around, Illinois stinks! Losers of five-straight, including four-straight Big Ten games, the Buckeyes are a heavy favorite (by 28) in this one and if they take care of business and do what they are capable of doing, they should head into their bye week at 10-0. It would be nice if this one was a blowout by halftime, as the Buckeyes gear up for their final two games of the season following their bye week (@ Wisconsin, vs. Michigan).
LETS GO BUCKEYES!

Weekend Game Picks (Last Week 5-1, Overall 40-14) Bonus Pick: 7-2

Louisville slides past Temple

Notre Dame beats PITT

Ohio State hammers Illinois

Oregon races past USC

Alabama sneaks past LSU

K State rolls past OK State

-That's right, I'm going with the remaining six undefeated teams all winning this week.

*Bonus Pick*

Sunday Night Football (8:20, NBC): The Cowboys pull off the shocker in Atlanta, hand the Falcons their 1st loss of the season.

  • The Cowboys have played spoiler before against a undefeated AFC South opponent, beating the 13-0 Saints in New Orleans back in December of 2009.
